Reuse an old phone as extra storage

Old phones often have tens of gigabytes free and nothing to do. Send files to one and it becomes a spare place to keep copies.

How to do it

  1. Open SpareDisk on both devices. On the first one, choose Show QR.
  2. Scan the QR code with the second device, which shows a short reply code.
  3. Type that reply code into the first device to finish pairing.
  4. Send the files you want to keep on the old phone.
  5. Keep the old phone charged and somewhere safe.

What this is and isn't

The old phone stores files you send it. It isn't a cloud service, and you need to have it with you to get the files back.

Good fits

Family photo archives, travel footage you want off your main phone, and a second copy of important documents.

Try it with the two devices you have

Open SpareDisk on both, scan the QR code, type the reply code, and send. Free to start, no account.

Questions

Does the old phone need a SIM or data plan?

No. It needs a modern browser and a way to connect to Wi-Fi.
